Horizons
Near the beach sea birds come in
plump feathery waves.
Barefoot spreads foam bubbles sink.
Freezing soles, towards the dunes, he puts his socks on.
Photograph of hovering birds, lines of smoke
from this distance.
Another of wet calves.
Rock lichen, the edge opens wider
than the years since.
Shells grow, loose flowers, in the garden.
I keep one, uprooted, in my purse.
